Need Tips for Taking Better 4th of July Pics?

4th of July fireworks camera tipsI’m a patriot.   Equal to the  love I have for my country and the greatfullness for the men and women who made our independence possible is my love for the sheer beauty of the 4th of July fireworks.  The awe of the lighting of the sky mixed with a taste of heart-pounding fear as the pounding of the explosions rattles my body humbles me.  I get disappointed when they finish and only wish our local fireworks fundraisers were a hundred times more successful, giving us hours of “ahhhs” and “ooohs” rather than a mere 40 minutes or less.  This is where the importance of good photography to capture the memory while the loved ones who shared our experience poses in the foreground is made apparent.

Adore the vast information the Internet gives us.  There are tips made available to help you get your money’s worth out of that expensive digital camera you purchased.  Aikenstandard.com posted an article providing some tips worth reading.  They are basically this:

  • Use a tripod to keep the camera still to prevent any blurriness in your photos
  • Use a wide angled lens to capture more of the sky.  Those colorful blasts cover a large area.
  • A longer exposure, like a 2 second shutter speed, is recommended.
  • Use the “bulb” setting, if the camera has one, and adjusting the “f-stop” to f8
  • Turn your camera to the dark setting and be sure your flash is off.  You want a dark sky and fireworks to show as streaks of color.
  • The camera has an ISO setting that determines the camera’s light sensitivity.  This should be as low as 100 to 200.
