Are there Cell Phones that are Woman Enough?
June 25, 2009 by CoreyO
Interesting research was reported by Design Research Lab pointing out that cell phone makers don’t take the women population into account quite enough. They point out that current trend of manufacturers to focus on stereotypical preferences rather than “in functionality and service” and totally turns a blind eye on menu structure or interaction patterns.
It was pointed out how many women are a bit more private concerning their phone usage and like to access interaction social networks like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. They don’t necessarily like the little pink phones with flowers that simply hide technology that is “over their heads.” Speaking as a male feminists – if I may even do so – women are still viewed as not interested and perhaps no as technologically capable as men and we all know this is not at all true. I will say that a particular female cell phone owner I know likes her Palm Centro because of the little keys that my ever so manly fingers can’t quite tap quickly.
Perhaps if the cell phone manufacturers allow more women in the decision processes then perhaps they would have a better vision of what sort of cell phone women prefer. It’s like a guy’s macho muscle head of a best friend telling him exactly what women want while himself only knowing one woman, his mother.
