Girl Falls in Sewer – Preoccupied by Cell Phone
July 12, 2009 by Corey Brashaw
manholeWe all know that it’s not a good idea to text while driving, it’s an accident waiting to happen. But now we’ve got word that maybe you should heed with caution when texting while walking. 15 year-old Alexa Longueira fell “four or five feet” into an open manhole on Victory Boulevard while attempting to send a text message, according to MSNBC. The crew turned around for a split second to grab some cones to place around the manhole that was open due to a sewer line being flushed and during that time Alexa had her head buried into her phone and didn’t notice the big gaping hole in the ground. She was checked out and released by Staten Island University Hospital suffering nothing worse than some scrapes.

Her mother has reported that she plans to sue, possibly to cover the cost of the one sneaker that has yet to be recovered from the incident? Maybe instead of suing she should teach her daughter to be aware of her surroundings so that next time it’s not a moving vehicle she wanders in front of while preoccupied by her phone.
