Airline Boarding Pass Downloaded to Cell Phones

tsaAir travel can be hectic.  Not only do you have to fight the crowds and pass through security without being volunteered for a more thorough search, but you have to check in and keep track of the that darn airline ticket, that if you lose, would mean more hurdles just to get on the plane.  Among all the commotions of getting on board, what is easier to keep track of; your cell phone or your airline ticket?  For me, my cell phone is easier since it is considered just another limb.

10 cities have airports, such as Cleveland Hopkins International Airport,  that participate in a program that allows passengers to download there boarding pass on their cell phone that can later be scanned by security, enabling the mobile gadget guru to go paperless when it comes to boarding passes just as long as their cell phones can download and open attachments.

This wireless program was first tested by the Transportation Security Administration and Continental Airlines.  Alaska, Delta, and Northwest airlines have since joined the wireless program.  TSA will be taking over the responsibility of checking passenger information from airports and says that a wireless system makes it harder for people to pass through checkpoints via fraudulent information.

Continental, Northwest, Delta, or Alaska airlines participate in this program at the following airports:

  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Austin, Texas
  • Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston
  • Indianapolis International Airport
  • LaGuardia Airport, New York
  • Logan International Airport, Boston
  • Newark (N.J.) Liberty International Airport
  • Reagan National Airport, Arlington, Va.
  • San Antonio International Airport
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
