If you are a Verizon loyalist and have been enviously reading a bunch of news about all these Androids being release, there is good news. You should probably wait on that upgrade until Verizon Wireless comes out with a Motoroloa smartphone based on Google’s Android OS. That’s right, Motoroloa is joining with Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile to release an Android based smartphone.
The timeline given is “by the end of the year” and the source is “a person familiar with the situation.” This is good news for both Verizon – which seems to only offer BlackBerrys – and Motoroloa, which has been struggling in the cellphone sector.
Good news isn’t always without its challenges, though. The iPhone 3G, the Palm Pre and the MyTouch 3G are all going to be in the arena (and well established) at the same time as Motorola’s version of Android comes out in the market. This source also points out that the divice will have similar hardware as the T-Mobile one. The software of Motorola’s version of Android better compare competatively with the Pre, Mytouch 3G, and iPhone 3G, or at least be dramatically less expensive if they wish to get a taste of leftovers at the trough.
